conversation guide
When your kiddo asks “Why is there no chocolate today?” It can be difficult to explain. But never fear, we’ve got a guide for having that tough conversation in a way anybody any age can understand.
1. Start with Curiosity
“Well, that’s a really good question! Most days have a treat, but today is a little different—and it’s meant to help us learn something important.”
3. Make It Relatable
“Imagine if you worked really hard at school or helped at home, but didn’t get your allowance or your gold star. That wouldn’t feel fair, right? That’s kind of what happens to cocoa farmers.”
5. End with Hope and Action
“The good news is, we can help! By choosing chocolate that’s made fairly—like this chocolate—we’re helping make sure farmers and their kids are treated right. And guess what? There’s still more chocolate waiting later in the calendar!”
2. Introduce the Idea of Fairness
“You know how we like to share and make sure everyone gets a fair turn? Well, the people who grow the cocoa for chocolate don’t always get treated fairly, and that makes life really hard for them.”
4. Explain the Empty Door Gently
“So, there’s one empty door in the calendar to show that not everything is fair in the chocolate world. It’s a way to help us remember that we can help make things better.”
